Turn Your Data Into the Next Right Conversation

Technology is getting better every month. But the companies pulling ahead aren't the ones adding more tools — they're the ones using data to strengthen human relationships and change measurable behavior. Four developments this week show why.

1. The most valuable contractor behaviors don't happen at the sales counter

On October 8, HARDI warned distributors that unfamiliar manufacturers and importers are offering HVAC equipment — including newly manufactured R-410A service units — that may not meet DOE, EPA, AHRI or safety-certification requirements. Because DOE treats equipment sitting in inventory and available for sale as "distribution in commerce," a distributor could be left holding dead, noncompliant stock.

Distributors are being asked to do far more than sell equipment. Contractors need help with the refrigerant transition, regulation, training and product selection — and that makes trusted expertise one of the strongest loyalty levers there is.

The Luxe take: reward the path, not just the purchase. Training completion, refrigerant-transition education, certification, product knowledge and compliant product adoption can all earn points in MyPoints alongside sales.

"Some of the most valuable contractor behaviors don't happen at the sales counter. Are you rewarding them?"

2. More data hasn't fixed the selling problem

Distribution Strategy Group's State of Distributor Sales and CRM 2026 report found that distributors have invested heavily in CRM, analytics and digital tools, yet salespeople still trail broader benchmarks in prospecting, reaching decision-makers, relationship building and selling value. Only 16% rated their CRM contact data excellent, and just 26% said the same of their transaction-history data.

Data only creates value when it changes what happens next. The real question is: what should a salesperson do differently this week because of what the data shows?

The Luxe take: MyPoints is built to turn program data into a next step. Not "Contractor A has 42,500 points," but "Contractor A is down 18% in this category, hasn't attended training in six months and is 12% from qualifying — call this week." That's the difference between tracking a program and growing a business.

3. Luxury group demand just posted one of its strongest stretches of 2026

STR/CoStar reported on October 9 that U.S. hotel demand grew 5.9% for the week ending October 3. Luxury and upper-upscale demand rose 10.1% and RevPAR climbed 17.8%. Group demand in those tiers jumped 25.6%, with 20 of the top 25 markets posting double-digit group gains.

Premium group dates for 2027 are not getting easier to buy. Waiting for a softer hotel market is more likely to mean fewer choices and less negotiating leverage.

The Luxe take: make sourcing strategy part of the plan. Decide early which variables you're willing to trade — dates, destination, airlift, room categories, length of stay, food and beverage, concessions — to protect both the experience and the budget.

"We don't need to make the experience cheaper. We need to make the buying strategy smarter."

4. When AI reads the email first, measure what people do

Loyalty360 is spotlighting brands like Sandals, which use AI to personalize while deliberately protecting the human relationship, and is preparing marketers for a world where AI assistants summarize and prioritize messages before members ever see them. That makes email opens less meaningful and shifts the focus to clicks, activations, redemptions and incremental behavior.

The measurement ladder is changing: sent and opened are weak signals; clicked and engaged are better; changed behavior and incremental revenue are what really count.

The Luxe take: report your program on actions and outcomes. Instead of "84% opened the promotion," aim for "42% took the desired action, 19% increased purchases, and the program produced $X in incremental margin."

The bottom line

HVAC complexity is raising the value of distributor expertise. Distributor data still isn't reliably turning into selling action. Luxury group demand remains strong. And AI is pushing loyalty measurement toward real behavior. Together, they point to a simple formula:

  • Use data to identify the behavior.

  • Use incentives to motivate it.

  • Use salespeople to strengthen the relationship.

  • Use the experience to make the achievement unforgettable.

That's a much bigger story than points and trips. Talk with Luxe about building a program that does all four.
